War in Ukraine

I think I remember a CIA sponsored coup in 21014 so you may want to quit reading here if the other side of the story is going to offend you. We’ll start with a discussion by Jordan Peterson and Dr. Frederick W. Kagan. that outlines the Western perspective. This episode was recorded on February 27, 2022. Dr. Frederick W. Kagan is a former professor of history with a PhD in Russian and Soviet military history from Yale. His website is the Institute for the Study of War. A previous study of war by the Institute is here.

And here are Jordan Peterson’s latest thoughts on the conflict.

Ray McGovern

Ray McGovern wrote for the President’s daily brief under Presidents Nixon and Ford. From 1981 to 1985, he personally briefed this publication in the morning one-on-one to Vice President George H. W. Bush, the Secretaries of State and Defense, and other senior officials of the administration of Ronald Reagan. His insights are those of a working analyst, not an academic.

John Pilger.

Pilger is a strong critic of AmericanAustralian, and British foreign policy, which he considers to be driven by an imperialist and colonialist agenda. Pilger has also criticised his native country’s treatment of Indigenous Australians. He first drew international attention for his reports on the Cambodian genocide.[6]

His career as a documentary film maker began with The Quiet Mutiny (1970), made during one of his visits to Vietnam, and has continued with over 50 documentaries since. Other works in this form include Year Zero (1979), about the aftermath of the Pol Pot regime in Cambodia, and Death of a Nation: The Timor Conspiracy (1993). His many documentary films on indigenous Australians include The Secret Country (1985) and Utopia (2013). In the British print media, Pilger worked at the Daily Mirror from 1963 to 1986,[7] and wrote a regular column for the New Statesman magazine from 1991 to 2014.

Pilger won Britain’s Journalist of the Year Award in 1967 and 1979.[8] His documentaries have gained awards in Britain and worldwide,[7][9] including multiple BAFTA honours.[10] The practices of the mainstream media are a regular subject in Pilger’s writing.

So what do I think? Well, “I ain’t marching anymore.” – Phil Ochs, pretty much sums it up. The Ukraine is a long way from Canada and very close to Russia. The first casualty of war is truth. If you carefully read both sides you may figure it out. If you really want to know what is going on read updates every day. If you find an interesting point of view leave a comment.

As of May 14, the war was not going well. For a unique Canadian perspective you can follow the exploits of Wali and Shadow.

From the CBC we have shadows war. https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/2030407235837/

and here is a CBC “analysis” of Russian Influencers on the Internet.

I’m pleased to point out that they have missed most of my sources which I’ll list below:

  • Larry C Johnson is a veteran of the CIA and the State Department’s Office of Counter Terrorism. He is the founder and managing partner of BERG Associates, which was established in 1998. Larry provided training to the US Military’s Special Operations community for 24 years. He has been vilified by the right and the left, which means he must be doing something right.
  • James G. Rickards is an American lawyer, economist, investment banker, speaker, media commentator, and author on matters of finance and precious metals. He is the author of Currency Wars: The Making of the Next Global Crisis and six other books. He lives in New Hampshire. His thoughts are here.
  • Douglas Macgregor, Colonel U.S. Army (Retired), Ph.D. Douglas Macgregor is a decorated combat veteran, the author of five books, a PhD, and a defense and foreign policy consultant. He was commissioned in the Regular Army in 1976 after 1 year at VMI and 4 years at West Point. In 2004, Macgregor retired with the rank of Colonel.  He holds an MA in comparative politics and a PhD in international relations from the University of Virginia. Here is his blog.

As of July 1 I’ve found a well regarded source for daily updates. This is the Military Summary channel.
